By manipulating the soft tissues (muscles, connective tissue, tendons, ligaments), the massage therapist can ease the pain and discomfort associated with muscle over-use, injury and chronic pain.
What is Massage Therapy?
Therapeutic Massage works by loosening tight, strained or spastic muscles. Tight muscles may impede circulation or press on a nerve and our body's natural tendency to 'favour' the problem areas increase tension in all muscles. Releasing the tension through massage, can often provide dramatic relief for people suffering from conditions such as whiplash, tendentious and chronic headaches, neck and back pain.
The benefits of massage are not limited to muscular problems. Because massage reduces stress and improves circulation it can help with joint flexibility and may be helpful in reducing swelling from fractures, sprains and post-operative conditions. Massage has also been used to treat insomnia, constipation or respiratory conditions (such as bronchitis). It can reduce some of the discomforts related to pregnancy and has been used to treat colic in babies.
What is Neuromuscular Integration and Structural Alignment (NISA)
The fascia is the web like sheet that underlies the skin and wraps around the bones and body organs. It's interconnected throughout the body and in an ideal, healthy well aligned body the fascia is soft and elastic.
As we get poor posture, physical or emotional trauma and some diseases can affect the fascia. it contracts and the layers adhere and become congested. NISA provides relief by separating and stretching the fascia, bringing it closer to the original well aligned body of tissue that it should be. By releasing the fascia, NISA treatments can improve posture, joint function and general body alignment. It can relieve chronic pain.
Conditions that can be helped by massage include:
- sports injuries
- accidents
- repetitive strain injuries
- senior citizen's aches and pain
- asthma
- pregnancy
